3 Bonus Tips For Keeping Your Pool Water Crystal Clear

Checking your water levels regularly and properly sanitizing your pool will go a long way in ensuring that your pool waters stay crystal clear.  Apart from checking these things at least once a week (or at least 2-3 times a week during summer or if the pool's regularly used), you can keep your water clean by:

Cleaning Out The Skimmer Baskets

The skimmer baskets of any pool should be emptied and cleaned out completely at least once a week.  If your pool is situated in an area which receives a large amount of debris (i.e. if there are a lot of trees or foliage in proximity to the pool), then you may need to clean the baskets out twice or three times a week, depending on the time of year.

Cleaning Out the Filters

One of the most forgotten parts of pool maintenance are the filters since they only need to be cleaned completely perhaps once every 4 to 6 months.  Keep track of when your last cleaning date was and schedule yourself in to clean them in the next few months, or after a heavy storm which may have left a lot of debris in your pool.

TIP:  If you can arrange to clean your filter along with something else that you do bi-annually, such as visit the dentist, you'll have an easier time remembering when it's filter cleaning time).

If you aren't sure that you need to clean out the filters, look for thing such as:

  • Weak returns

  • A poorly performing in-floor cleaning system

  • Poor water clarity

Adjust Your Water Levels

Your water level should always rest somewhere around the skimmer or the center of the tile around your pool.  If you need to add more water, by all means top it up.
